How to Choose Outfits for Family & Couple Photos

What you wear at your engagement photos, family session, or couple photoshoot has a huge impact on the final images.

Outfits set the tone, create harmony, and help everyone feel confident and at ease. Here are my top tips for getting dressed for your family or couple shoot:

1. Keep It Neat & Comfortable

Clean, ironed, and comfortable clothes always work best. If something is too tight or too loose, it may show up in your photos.

2. Mind the Prints

Skip large prints, bold patterns, or big logos. They tend to distract from the real stars of the photo: you and your connections.

Simpler is often better.

3. Color Matters

What you wear should work together, not clash. If there are several people in the shot, dressing in similar or complementary colors creates a unified, harmonious look.

Not sure what to choose? Try using a Color Wheel tool (like here) to pick a base color, then select outfits that match or gently contrast.

With these simple tips, you’ll be ready for beautiful, timeless photos that feel “just right.
