Rosie and Dave drove from the UK to celebrate their destination wedding in the Loire Valley. They chose a romantic neo-gothic riverside chateau where family and friends could turn a long weekend into a French family holiday. There were 15 people in total and they all stayed on-site. The chateu Valcreuse is situated at the river bank right next to La Roche-Posay town.

The Loire Valley feels like a postcard from classic France. You see soft hills, rivers, vineyards and chateaux that look like they came from a fairy tale. Couples from the UK, Ireland, Europe and beyond choose this region for a destination wedding because it offers beauty, history and good food and wine without the stress of a big city.

Don’t choose a venue only because it looks pretty in photos. You also need a team who knows how to run weddings smoothly, otherwise you might spend your big day stressed instead of enjoying it. The ideal venue gives you both:
— beautiful spaces and
— practical support for your guests.

Look at the guest list, how many rooms you need, and whether you want an intimate celebration or a big, glamorous party. Then check that the venue layout, on‑site team and past wedding experience all match that vision.

This particular wedding venue is for a small celebrations - the chateau de Valcreuse. The location is beautiful and gives you several options for your wedding ceremony. For small weddings you can say your vows outside near the vineyards, by the river bank with the chateau in the background, in front of the chateau itself, or inside the big lounge room as a relaxed plan‑B.

On Rosie and Dave’s wedding day, family and friends crossed the Channel to join them at a Loire Valley chateau. The morning felt calm and cosy. The bride got ready with her closest friends in a bright lounge room with luxurious view over the river.  The groom shared coffee and jokes with her brother downstairs.

As you can see in the pictures below, Rosie and Dave chose to have their ceremony in front of the chateau. For photos it’s a great choice, however if your wedding day is a very hot summer day, you may prefer a shady spot by the river or under trees near the vines so your guests feel more comfortable. The ceremony usually last 15 - 30 min, no longer.

The couple exchanged vows, which I recorded and used for their personal reel. Voice and soft music are perfect accompaniment for images. Roses was so busy she didn’t know that vows were recorded. It was a lovely surprise for her. When she received the reel after the wedding, her reaction was: "Oh my goodness, Lana. That is absolutely incredible!! I didn't know you were recording the vows, it was such an amazing surprise when I watched the reel! Xxx" 

After the vows, everyone moved to the pool terrace for wedding drinks. Champagne and Crémant were served with light canapes, and guests enjoyed the sunshine by the water. This kind of wedding reception drinks moment works perfectly, where many estates have gardens, pools and shaded corners. You can keep it simple with Champagne, or add signature wedding cocktails inspired by local wines and fruits.

As evening arrived, guests took their seats for dinner on a terrace with a wide view over the valley. Long table, linen and seasonal flowers. Between courses, there were speeches and a few surprises from friends and family. The catering team – a private chef - served tender duck and Loire wines, which made the whole dinner feel very French and very personal.

TIP 1:

If you plan a destination wedding in the Loire Valley, start by choosing your season. Late spring and early autumn usually bring mild weather, softer light and fewer crowds, which work very well for outdoor Loire Valley chateau weddings.
 

Looking at this year so far (July 2026), many French regions had very hot summer, with some weddings held outside at close to +40°C. In extreme heat, outdoor ceremonies can become unsafe and some performers may need to cancel their sets. When you plan a chateau wedding in France, think about shade, water, and backup indoor spaces so your guests, musicians, celebrants and photographers stay comfortable.

TIP 2:
Think about travel for your guests when you plan a destination wedding in the Loire Valley. Many will arrive in Paris first and then take a train or rent a car to reach the chateau. Try to book accommodation close to the venue so guests can walk together or use short shuttle rides instead of long late‑night journeys.

In small French villages and remote towns, taxis can be limited and Uber often doesn’t operate there yet. Don’t expect people to “just grab a cab”. Plan ahead with buses, minibuses or car‑shares so everyone gets back safely after your wedding.

TIPS 3:
If you want a calm, easy morning, hire a wedding planner or day‑of coordinator. They can handle chairs, car parking, table settings and all the little moves between spaces while you focus on getting ready and enjoying your guests.
